May - June 2003
cinema The Belvarosi cinema on Deak Ferenc utca. |

theatre The Szegedi Nemzeti Szinhaz, or Szeged National Theatre, where operas, ballets and concerts are performed. For reasons not available to me, there were no shows on for the whole of June. |
serbian The Serbian Orthodox Church, not too far away from the Votive Church. While the outside was somewhat dilapilated, the inside bore this fantastic iconostasis, a golden tree branching out into pictures of various saints and icons running from wall to ceiling. The friendly priest/caretaker told me that there are about 30 Serbian Orthodox churchgoers in Szeged. |
townhall The neobaroque Szeged Town Hall, on the northwest side of Szechenyi Ter. |
reok-whole The Reok Palota (palace) is an odd-looking Art Nouveau building just off Tisza-Lajor korut, and now houses a bank. |
reok-detail Detail from entrance to the building. |
toldy One of the painted windows of a quaint new-agey type shop on Toldy utca. The door-on-main-street-leading-into-establishment-in-basement motiff seemed quite common. |
accord A street musician with an accordian on Karasz utca, the main pedestrian mall in the centre of town. |
reformed Detail of part of the office of the Calvinist church (the oldest church in Szeged), just off Tisza-Lajos korut. |
dmi Front door the the Department of Medical Informatics building, where I worked. Curiously, the names of the head of the department are inscribed on the front of every building in the University. |
